Bravo! Thank you for all that you do in advocating for elders. I really appreciate this blog. I have become increasingly aware of the vultures both when caring for my 94-year old mother and now with myself at 69. I was amazed at the amount of medical supplies billed to medicare, more than Mom could have ever used. Now, the amount of mailings I'm getting about drug coverage and supplemental plans is a huge waste of paper. I am pleased, however, to see blogs such as yours and programs such as the North Oakland Village association. Networking with friends and neighbors to take care of each other seems a proactive way to age.

I agree there must be a better way. I can see both sides because I managed assisted livings. We payed more than most to our workers, but could not pay what they needed, so they would work at two or three jobs. If we did and had the right number of staff, the small business could not afford to stay in operation. I've noticed that those in caregiving that know the most about what's needed to be healthy are the least healthy because of having no time to take care of themselves properly.

I picked up a copy of your directory for Contra Costa at Kaiser and I found it very informative. My wife and I are volunteers for Caring Hands and are asked questions all the time about where to get information described in your magazine. I would like to know if I can get copies of the directory for our church. We have people coming in with these questions on what is available in East county. Is that $3 for shipping 1 directory or # of directories. Thanks....John Jolly
